“It’s selective, probably just four or five solo dates on my concert schedule this spring. “This is an extension of my ‘Beautiful World’ tour, but it’s not a living-room concert tour per se,” says Brickman, via cell phone from southern California, his home of two decades. Still, the Troy concert will be something of a rarity– a completely solo piano performance in a more intimate venue than the norm for Brickman, one of just a handful this season. Adding to all this activity, he performs upwards of 125 concert dates a year with symphony orchestras and collaborators across the spectrum of the music industry from Martina McBride to Carly Simon to Sara Evans to Roberta Flack. This spring he’ll set sail on his fifth Jim Brickman Cruise aboard a vessel bound for the Alaskan coast. The music is so comforting.” A virtual cottage industry – with his own marketing company to back it up - he boasts a syndicated radio show and a line of greeting cards with his music imbedded on microchips. “But it’s my favorite time of year to perform. “The Christmas season is always a very busy season for me, and this time of year as well,” he says. That might be difficult claim to document, but he embraces his in-demand status in the seasonal arc from Thanksgiving to Valentine’s Day. Indeed, his marketing campaign openly boasts that he holds the record for most marriage proposals delivered at live concerts. As all of that suggests, Brickman does not eschew his signature sound or his musical reputation as author of the soundtrack of romance. Since his platinum-selling holiday CD “The Gift” a dozen years ago, Brickman has remained the best-selling solo piano act in the world, with a string of discs bearing evocative titles like “Destiny,” “My Romance,” “Love Songs and Lullabies,” “Peace,” “Grace” and “Escape.” He scored his second Grammy nomination - this one for Best New Age Recording - for last year’s inspirational “Faith,” and his current “Beautiful World” boasts his 28th chart-topping single -on the heels of his same-titled fourth PBS concert special, broadcast locally last fall. On the Friday night of Valentine’s Day weekend, pianist Jim Brickman, composer and performer of hits like “Valentine” and “Love of My Life,” the reigning champ of romantic adult-contemporary music, will perform a solo concert at the hall. It’s a bit of a coup for the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.
